Three Laws of Digital Identity

(Inspired by Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics)

  • A terminal or connected device may not archive, collect or transmit data related to a human being beyond a specific length of time, or, if passive, allow a human being to be indexed in each of its behavioral patterns and intentions.
  • A terminal or connected device must abide by confidentiality rules defined by its user, except where such rules would conflict with the First Law.
  • A terminal or connected device must provide personalized services as long as such services do not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

Th@nks to @clochix for suggesting the idea to translate this post, and many thanks to Sebastien Jacotin, my colleague, who did it.
